India's 1st Private Sector Rocket to be Launched This Month

SRIHARIKOTA: After the multiple success stories written by the Indian Space Research Organisation in the public sector, Skyroot Aerospace is ready to launch the first private sector rocket in India. Code-named Prarambh, this mission is expected to be executed in the second week of November. It will be a demonstration flight with the Vikram-S launch vehicle created by Skyroot Aerospace.

As of now, the Indian Space Research Organisation is leading not only the country but also several other countries and organizations. It has been on the forefront of the development, design and the planning of space missions. The ISRO chairman S Somnath had unveiled the mission patch for the maiden launch in Bengaluru.

According to reports, Skyroot Aerospace is planning towards launching the rocket on November 12-16. The final date or time has not been confirmed by the company yet. They have already received the necessary technical clearance form IN-SPACE, the nodal agency for promoting and regulating space-tech players

Another report mentioned Sireesh Pallikonda the Business Development Lead of Skyroot Aerospace speaking about the demonstration flight with three customer payloads. "We are yet to get a final date for the launch, but Vikram-S will launch between November 12-16," he informed.

"Thrilled to announce Prarambh, our maiden launch mission, also the first for the Indian private space sector, with launch window between 12-16 Nov '22," commented the head of the company which based in Telangana.

The company has developed three variants of the Vikram rocket. While the Vikram-I can carry 480 kilos of payload to Low Earth Orbit, the Vikram-II is equipped to launch a total of 595 kilos of cargo. The Vikram-III can launch with an 815 kg to 500 km Low Inclination Orbit.

The Vikram-I vehicle will have a Kalam-100 rocket, which passed a static fire test this year.It was conducted at a facility of one of the company's investors.
